We want to be a part of your school year by educating your students about electricity and electrical safety. We have several programs from which the students will benefit. Please take a moment to read further and learn about the educational programs your friends at Fayetteville Public Utilities have to offer!
Grades K-3
The "Louie the Lightning Bug" video features a cartoon lightning bug who teaches youngsters about electrical safety. The video offers music and a bit of humor to keep the children interested in the important messages about safety.
Following the presentation, the students will participate in the "Louie the Lightning Bug" coloring contest. Each student receives a prize for participating and first, second and third place winners in each classroom receive special Louie prizes for winning the contest.

Grades 3 & 4
The "Danger! High Voltage!" show brings real-life electrical hazards into the classroom using a simulated, energized demonstration. Electrical hazards involving contact with overhead power lines are demonstrated and explained on a level which students can understand. As part of the demonstration, Leon, the neon man lights up to show students how a path of electricity flows through the human body to reach the ground. This is a true eye-opener for youth and adults alike.
4th Grade
Students learn how to wire a simple electric circuit and switch, and they also learn the difference between electrical insulators and conductors. These experiments turn ordinary students into junior scientists as they learn and experience first-hand how electricity works!
Grades 5-9
"The Shocking Truth" video and activity booklets teach older students about electrical safety on a level on which they can easily relate. Along with learning about safety, they also hear about power outages and the not-so-common reasons an outage may occur. This video is perfect to show before the end of the school year!
